On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at 3:58 pm, the Turlock Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, Turlock Fire Department, Turlock Rural Fire Protection District, Keyes Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of W Taylor Rd and Taylor Ct, Turlock, after a train had struck a vehicle.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a stopped Union Pacific train that had struck a white Acura sedan. The white Acura sedan had a small fire, but it was quickly extinguished.

The train had two crew members on board, neither of which suffered any injuries. The white Acura sedan had a single female occupant which surprisingly only suffered minor injuries. She was ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.

The train sustained very minor superficial damage and was able to be driven away from the scene. The white Acura sedan sustained major damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.

The train engineer stated that as he was headed southbound at an unknown speed, the white Acura sedan came eastbound on W Taylor Rd, approaching the railroad tracks and attempting to beat the train. As the white Acura sedan was about halfway over the tracks, the front left corner of the lead locomotive struck it. The train pushed the white Acura sedan about thirty feet southeast, causing it to collide with a railroad crossing box and a power pole, coming to final rest. The power pole snapped in half.

The Turlock Irrigation District responded to make repairs to the power pole and city crews responded to set up barriers while crews work.
