At about 1:52am Thursday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision in the 2600 block of East Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a total of eight vehicles involved, all of which had been parked and unoccupied at the time the collision occurred, except the responsible one.

The responsible vehicle had overturned and come to final rest on its roof. Almost all vehicles sustained major damage, and one was stacked on top of two others. Several Turlock Scavenger trash bins that had been put out for collection were also hit, resulting in trash being spewn all over the roadway.

Officers didn’t locate any occupants of the responsible vehicle still at the scene, but did locate a credit card belonging to Sonya Hall, 39, of Turlock.

History indicated Hall resided in the 500 block of Vermont Avenue, so officers went there to look for her. Sure enough, they found her and she admitted to being the driver.

Hall stated she was given a ride away from the scene by someone who later returned to the scene and was interviewed by officers. He admitted to giving Hall a ride and this was also corroborated by an uninvolved witness.

Hall only suffered minor injuries and refused an ambulance or being transported to the hospital.

While speaking with Hall, Officer Aziz noticed she was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so he asked her if she’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Hall agreed and completed the tests.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Aziz determined Hall was under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. She was arrested.

Hall chose to provide two breath samples for her chemical test required by California’s implied consent law. Additionally, she was issued a driver’s license suspension order and her vehicle was towed.

After being medically cleared, Hall was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs and seven counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Back at the scene, five of the eight involved vehicles had to be towed away. The roadway was closed for several hours while that happened and all the debris was cleaned up.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred, however, speed appeared to be a factor.
