President Barack Obama (D) will deliver the first State of the Union address of his second term this evening.
Local representatives like U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) already have some idea of what they would like to hear in the speech.
“We are hopeful the President will use the State of the Union to put forward a serious plan to turn the economy around, control spending, reduce our debt and boost job growth without adding burdensome taxes to hardworking families,” Denham told supporters via his Facebook page. “The world we leave for our children and grandchildren depends on the decisions we make today.”
Obama is expected to focus on the economy tonight, laying out a vision for his second-term agenda. He may also address immigration, gun control, climate change, and a timetable to end the Afghanistan war.
The State of the Union address is expected to begin at 6 p.m. tonight.
