Two men rescued a Turlock resident from his home after a fire broke out in an attic on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4 p.m., the resident, Robert Brown, was in his room when he noticed the active fire in his attic. He was alerted by the smoke in the house and the activation of the smoke detectors.
Brown was allegedly locked in the residence and was having difficulty getting out.
At that time, two men had been driving down 1000 block of Tornell Avenue when they noticed the smoke coming from the residence. The men stopped and were able to enter the home and help Brown to escape safely.
The Turlock Fire Department responded to the home and were able to get the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, but were on-scene for nearly four hours.
The fire began in the attic, but the cause is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.
The Turlock Fire Department estimates about $100,000 in loss for both the property and contents of the home that were damaged.
Brown was displaced and put up in a hotel due to the damage.
One of the rescuers were treated for breathing difficulty from smoke inhalation at a local hospital. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
