At about 7:17pm Thursday, Turlock Police responded to a shoplift that had just occurred at Famous Footwear in the 2800 block of W. Monte Vista Avenue.
The caller provided a suspect and suspect vehicle description, and stated the vehicle was stuck at the railroad tracks waiting for a train to pass.
Officers arrived in the area within minutes and located the suspect vehicle in the Quik Stop parking lot. The vehicle had three occupants and a man was standing outside speaking with them. When the man noticed the officers, he walked away.
Officer Diaz contacted the man and detained him, while Officer Rocha made a traffic stop on the vehicle as it exited the parking lot.
Everyone was identified, including Anthony Rubio, 30, of Turlock, and Derik Coronado, 39, of Modesto.
When officers had their dispatcher run the four, they discovered Coronado was on post-release communication supervision for domestic violence inflicting corporal injury and the other two unnamed people were on probation for shoplifting.
Rubio matched the suspect description provided by the caller.
Rocha went to the business and was shown surveillance video of Rubio and Coronado exiting the store with an unpaid pair of shoes each. Coronado had initially gone unnoticed.
The stolen shoes were recovered and returned to the business.
Rubio and Coronado were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of shoplifting.
The other two were released from detention.
