At about 3:56pm Saturday, the California Highway Patrol, Hughson Fire, Keyes Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision with injuries at Geer Road and E. Grayson Road in Hughson.
When units arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved, a 2013 Lexus and 1996 Toyota.
Both vehicles were only occupied by their drivers, who unfortunately suffered major injuries that they both succumbed to at the scene. The driver of the Lexus was later identified as Dominique Cardenas, 25, of Turlock, and the passenger of the Toyota was later identified as Jesus Hernandez, 36, of Modesto.
So far, the preliminary investigation has revealed that Cardenas was driving southbound on Geer Road, while Hernandez was driving northbound. Just south of E. Grayson Road, Cardenas’ vehicle veered to the left and crossed over the double yellow lines, colliding head-on with Hernandez’s vehicle.
“Alcohol is expected to be a factor in this crash,” said Officer Abrahamson. “Both parties were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Abrahamson at 209-545-7440.
