At about 11:25pm Monday, Turlock Police responded to a city ordinance violation at Broadway Park in the 500 block of N. Broadway.
When units arrived on scene, they contacted Bernadine Hernandez, 44, of Turlock, and Derik Coronado, 39, of Modesto.
Hernandez was standing in the park while Coronado was standing on the sidewalk speaking with her.
Officers recognized Coronado and knew he was on post-release community supervision for domestic violence inflicting corporal injury, so he was detained in handcuffs
During a subsequent PRCS search of Coronado, officers located a meth pipe concealed in his underwear.
Coronado was arrested and Officer Nwando began working on his citation. While doing so, Hernandez started to walk away.
Hernandez was told she wasn’t free to leave as she would receive a citation for being in the park after hours. Hernandez became passively resistive and refused to sit on a vehicle’s push bumper, stating that a different officer had already told her that she wouldn’t get cited, which wasn’t the case.
Eventually, Hernandez decided to comply after being told she would be put in handcuffs if she didn’t. She was also arrested as she’d previously been lectured and released for being in a park after hours.
Hernandez and Coronado were both released on citations, Hernandez for being in a public park between the hours of 10pm and 6am, and Coronado for possession of drug paraphernalia.
