At about 11:04pm Monday, Turlock Police responded to a robbery that had just occurred in the 800 block of N. Golden State Boulevard.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim, a Delhi man, who stated that he’d been walking in the area when he was approached by two men who asked him for money and cigarettes. When the victim declined, one of the men attempted to pull his backpack off him but was unsuccessful in his efforts and both took off.
The victim stated that one of the men had been last seen riding his bicycle into Turlock Town Center, while the other was currently sitting outside the Venice Motel parking lot.
Officer McCrae located and contacted one of the men in front of Smart & Final Extra!, while Officer Conrad contacted the other at Venice.
The two men were identified as Robert Lair, 51, of Modesto, and Luis Cardenas, 32, of Turlock.
Cardenas was discovered to be a gang member and on searchable probation for obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty.
During subsequent in-field show-ups, the victim was able to positively identify both Lair and Cardenas.
Both were arrested and a search of Cardenas incident to arrest led to the discovery of methamphetamines.
