The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will discuss labor contracts and Common Core Standards at their next public meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 18, at the Professional Development Center, 1100 Cahill Ave.
Prior to the public session the board and designated district representatives will convene in closed session with negotiators from the Turlock Teachers Association, California School Employees Association and several other school employee unions regarding labor contracts.
The public portion of the meeting will kick off with inspiration from Julien Elementary School student Abbey Harrington, who will speak about the character trait of respect.
Soon after the board will hear a presentation from the Turlock High School Speech and Debate Program.
On the consent calendar the board is expected to approve donations in the amount of $1,000 from Aaron’s Furniture in Modesto for special education at Crowell Elementary, a $20,000 scholarship from Cal-Almond in Hughson bearing the name of Corbin Maldonado, a 2012 graduate of Turlock High School who passed away in September from leukemia. Also the board will vote to accept a $1,000 donation form Staples, Inc. to THS to be used for the Relay For Life Club.
Of further note in the consent calendar the board will vote to approve an updated contract with the Naval Service Training Command for THS to host the NJROTC unit to reflect changes in program regulations.
At 7:20 p.m. TUSD Business Services is scheduled to give a report on the Capital Facilities Financing Plan in regard to district capacities and projections. At 7:35 p.m. Educational Services will once again provide an informational update on Common Core implementation plans.
Lastly, at 8 p.m., Human Resources will open a public comment period regarding the initial contract proposal from the Turlock Teachers Association.
