The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will discuss the county's school budget, after-school programs, and the transition to Common Core standards at a meeting tonight.
The meeting will kick off with an inspiration and flag salute from two Turlock Junior High students who were selected as September’s Character Counts awardees for the character trait of “responsibility.”
A presentation by City of Turlock staff on the importance and success of the After School Education and Safety (ASES) program will be held at 6:40 p.m., followed by a presentation by the Pitman High School Future Business Leaders of America officers regarding upcoming activities and accomplishments.
In a financial matter the board will hear the Stanislaus County Office of Education’s acceptance of the TUSD budget report for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
A public hearing will be held at about 7:24 p.m. regarding the district’s transition and financial plan for the upcoming State Common Core standards. The district is weighing how to spend an estimated $2.2 to $2.6 million it expects to receive from the state for training, materials and technology/ infrastructure needs.
The consent agenda includes some items of note, such as approval for an out-of-state trip for a Pitman High Orchestra student to participate in the National Honor Orchestra, Oct. 27-30 in Nashville, Tenn. Also, the board will likely approve a contract agreement with author Adam Sidwell to hold two readings of his book “Evertaster” for 4th- 6th grade students at Crowell Elementary. The funding is not to exceed $600.
