It’s a good sign things are going well for a school district when officials are voting to approve additional funding.
The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to approve nearly $1.84 million in supplemental funding for the 2014-15 school year.
The funds will be included as an augmentation in the district’s final budget, which will be finalized and voted upon in the coming months.
Much of the funding will be ongoing supplements to the regular district budget. The funds are broken into 10 specific expenditures, the largest being an ongoing allotment of $750,000 for technology replacement to pay for the constantly changing landscape of technology in schools and possible staffing needs.
A $400,000 deferred maintenance fund will also be established to help pay for ongoing school repairs. A further $250,000 dollars will be set aside for student intervention, primarily to hire additional staff and materials to help students in academic and social need.
The district’s new Ag Farm will be allocated a one-time $150,000 boost for upgrading structures and equipment. Also, it will receive an ongoing $150,000 for program support.
Site and building improvements, mainly security enhancements, will have an extra $70,000 and Turlock Junior High School will be given $33,000 to expand its STEM program.
The Beginning Teacher Training program will receive $25,000, and $10,000 will be set aside for public relations purposes.
