An armed felon who allegedly robbed the Stop N Shop Market on Lander Avenue Wednesday has been arrested, Turlock police announced today.

Jorge David Cardenas, 33, was arrested for using a firearm during the commission of a robbery, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Cardenas has previously been found guilty of driving under the influence four times, and felony possession of narcotics, according to Stanislaus County Superior Court records. He was also charged with using offensive words in a public place.

A 17-year-old male was also arrested for assisting in the robbery; no further information about him will be released, as he is a minor.

According to Turlock police, the two suspects entered the Stop N Shop Market, pointed a handgun at the cashier, and demanded money and cigarettes. The cashier complied, and the two men fled the store on foot.

Video surveillance later showed that Cardenas was one of the suspects who committed the robbery, Turlock police said.

Cardenas was found Thursday morning exiting a home on Angelus Street. He was accompanied by two 17-year-old males at the time, including the minor suspected of assisting in the robbery. Both Cardenas and the suspected minor were promptly arrested; the other minor was released.

An ensuing search of the Angelus Street home located a handgun matching the description of the gun allegedly used by Cardenas during the robbery.
