As the holiday season draws near, a new rash of purse snatchings has struck Turlock.
Turlock police have taken three separate reports of purse snatchings in the past two days.
Given the recent crime spree, the Turlock Police Department reminds Turlockers to safeguard their purses and belongings. The police advise residents to keep their personal items with them at all times.
These types of crimes are known as “crimes of opportunity.” By eliminating the opportunity and keeping a close eye on belongings, the chances of becoming a victim are decreased.
Turlockers were previously warned of purse snatchers in September, when one Walmart shopper was targeted.
The female shopper placed her purse in her shopping cart at Turlock’s Walmart and briefly turned away to grab a bag of dog food. While her attention was diverted, and unknown person or persons stole her purse. The victim’s credit cards were later fraudulently used.
