A Turlock man is wanted by the Placer County Sheriff’s Department for felony vandalism and theft at a Colfax car wash early Monday monday, according to a Facebook report.
According to the report, a deputy from the Placer County Sheriff’s Department was responding to a burglary alarm at the car wash at approximately 4 a.m. The business owner told the Sheriff’s Department he was watching video surveillance of a male subject allegedly drilling the coin boxes.
When the deputy arrived on scene, the suspect, later identified as Shane Schmidt, 39, of Turlock, had already fled.
Minutes later the deputy spotted the suspect and a female accomplice at a nearby gas station in Colfax. The male suspect was allegedly involved in a foot pursuit with the deputy, but was able to escape.
The female suspect, later identified as Sandra Byrd, 35, of Turlock, was able to run to their vehicle and leave the area.
Another deputy spotted the vehicle driving westbound on Interstate 80 in Auburn and attempted to stop the vehicle. Byrd allegedly refused to stop and continued to drive at high speeds.
A Roseville police officer was able to deploy spike strips near Douglas Boulevard and Byrd was finally stopped on the interstate between Riverside and Antelope roads.
Byrd was arrested and booked into the Placer County Jail for evading arrest, driving with a suspended license, and resisting arrest.
Detectives are actively searching for Schmidt, who is on probation out of Turlock. He is currently on post-release community supervision.
Schmidt is described as standing 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt with a white emblem on it, unknown color pants, and black and white tennis shoes.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Schmidt are asked to call the Placer County Sheriff’s Department at 530-889-7800.
