Thousands of people joined together at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds on Saturday for the Annual Turlock Gun Show, hosted by Code of the West Productions.

The show, which in the past has drawn in an average of 4,000 individuals, saw double the attendance this year, said Peggy Smith of Code of the West Productions.

“Right now all the gun shows are that way,” said Smith. “With all the hype from the federal government and California wanting to put more restrictions, it has spurred people to come out.”

“California gun laws are pretty much everything that President Obama wants to do, so it’s not going to change anything in California per se,” said Smith. “So I don’t know what’s driving the increase, other than wanting to get out and show support.”

Smith said that the gun show that Code of the West Productions put on in Vallejo also saw an increase in attendance and sales.

“The lines at these shows are incredible,” said Smith. “There were people waiting in line for a couple of hours for ammo.”

Gun shows all across the state have been running out of ammunition as sales have reached an all-time high. At the Vallejo gun show, Smith said that all the ammunition was sold out not long after the event began.

The Turlock gun show featured gun-related booths and vendors from organizations from all across the state.

“A lot of these organizations go to (a number) of our shows throughout Northern California, some were from Turlock, so it’s kind of a mix,” said Smith.

The Turlock Gun Show by Code of the West Productions will be back at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds on May 18 & 19. Tickets are $10 and are good for both days. Children 12 and under are free, but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

“It’s a good show, and we love doing shows in Turlock,” said Smith. “The people are so nice and it’s a nice atmosphere, so we enjoy it there.”
