Just after 7 a.m., a small group of firefighters gathered outside of the City of Turlock Fire Station #4, located at 2820 N. Walnut Rd., to raise the American Flag and honor those were lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

The flag raised before being lowered to half-staff, just as many flags around Turlock will wave.

Following the raising of the flag, a brief moment of silence was held to remember all of those that were lost on Sept. 11 13 years ago.

The ceremony was held at all fire stations across Turlock.

Turlock firefighters were not the only ones remembering the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) released a statement to honor those victims.

“13 years ago today, our great nation came under attack for the things we hold most dear – freedom, prosperity and strength,” said Denham. “Today we remember the thousands of Americans who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and on Flight 93. The first responders, police forces, firefighters and citizens who fought to help each other are an inspiration to us all. We owe a debt of gratitude to them and to the thousands more who have lost their lives in the years since 2001 fighting for our freedom and protecting the ideals that make us Americans.”

Denham also remembered the four Americans who were killed on Sept. 11 just two years ago.

“We also remember the four American lives lost two years ago in Benghazi, Libya. Today our nation is again threatened by forces across the world determined to spread terror and evil,” said Denham. “Our country is capable and strong, and we know that freedom is not free. We will continue to stand for human dignity, courage and honor across the globe.”
