On Wednesday, August 31st, 2022, at 6:41 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of N Golden State Blvd and W Canal Dr, Turlock, observed a vehicle collision occur at the intersection involving a semi-truck and traffic light.
After the collision, the truck did not stop and drove off westbound from the scene. It was stopped by the officer a few seconds later near the intersection of Chestnut St and N First St.
The officer made contact with the truck’s driver, Carrie Keeton, 41, of North Carolina, noticed that she was exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence, and smelt a faint odor of alcohol coming off of her.
The officer removed Keeton from her truck and asked her if she would be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests, which she agreed to and completed.
Ultimately, based on the objective symptoms that Keeton was exhibiting, the odor of alcohol that was coming off of her, her performance in the standardized field sobriety tests, the fact that she had just been involved in a collision, and the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that she was under the influence of alcohol.
Keeton was arrested and provided an evidentiary breath sample at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law. The results of the breath sample revealed that Keeton had a blood alcohol content of .04 or greater.
Keeton was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving a commercial vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .04 or greater. She was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and her vehicle was impounded.
At the time of the collision, Keeton was the truck’s only occupant. She did not suffer any injuries.
Keeton’s truck sustained minor damage.
The collision occurred as Keeton was making a westbound turn onto W Canal Dr from northbound N Golden State Blvd.
