On Wednesday, May 18th, 2022 at 9:14 am, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Grant Ave and Flower St, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. One was a gray Dodge sedan and the other was a white Acura sedan. The white Acura sedan was on its roof.

The driver of the gray Dodge sedan, a 61-year old male, suffered minor injuries and was ground transported to a local hospital by American Medical Response, while the driver of the white Acura sedan, a 68-year old female, also suffered minor injuries but refused to be transported. One of the vehicles was also occupied by a passenger who suffered minor injuries and also refused to be transported to the hospital.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring them to be towed away.

Officers began investigating and determined that the gray Dodge sedan was traveling eastbound on Flower St approaching Grant Ave, while the white Acura sedan was traveling northbound on Grant Ave approaching Flower St. Eastbound and westbound traffic have stop signs and have to yield to northbound and southbound traffic. The driver of the gray Dodge sedan stopped for the stop sign, however, failed to wait for the white Acura sedan to pass and pulled out in front of it, causing it to broadside him and rollover onto its roof.

“The speed limit on Grant Ave is thirty miles per hour and it is reasonable that a ninety degree broadside would flip a car at that speed or less,” said Turlock Police Lieutenant Neil Cervenka, who was previously the Sergeant over the department’s Traffic Unit.
