On Saturday, January 7th, 2023, at 5:17 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported sideshow in progress at the intersection of N Tegner Rd and Fulkerth Rd, Turlock.
When officers arrived on scene, they observed a blue 2004 Infiniti G35 being driven by who was later identified as Bryan Villanueva, 18, of Modesto, actively doing donuts in the middle of the intersection. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on Villanueva, however, he took off from them and a pursuit ensued.
Villanueva drove eastbound on Fulkerth Rd from the intersection, but then made a U-turn and began driving westbound. During the U-turn, Villanueva spun his vehicle around to the point where it lost traction with the ground. Villanueva then turned northbound onto N Tegner Rd and westbound at Powers Ct, entering the Costco Wholesale parking lot at 2955 N Tegner Rd.
While going through the N Tegner Rd and Powers Ct intersection, the lead patrol vehicle in the pursuit was involved in a collision with an innocent bystander’s vehicle.
Villanueva and his passenger, who was his juvenile brother, were originally able to escape, however, the brother was found hiding inside Mattress Firm at 2919 N Tegner Rd within minutes and Villanueva was brought back to the scene by his father less than an hour later.
Villanueva was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety on charges of flight from a peace officer with disregard for the safety of persons or property, abusing or endangering a child under circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death, and obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty.
The pursuit’s total distance traveled was slightly over a mile and it only lasted about a minute. The highest speed reached was about 55 miles per hour.
The collision involving the patrol vehicle and an innocent bystander’s vehicle did not result in any injuries and only minor damage was sustained.
