At about 1:34am Friday morning, Turlock Police Officer Khounlivong made a traffic stop at the Sunrise Inn in the 1300 block of N. Golden State Boulevard.
Khounlivong made contact with and identified the vehicle’s three occupants, including a 17-year-old Hispanic male passenger.
When Khounlivong had his dispatcher run the three, he was unable to find any record of the 17-year-old with the name and date of birth he provided.
Due to plainly visible marijuana being visible in the vehicle that both the 17-year-old and another 12-year-old passenger had access to, everyone was removed from the vehicle.
The 12-year-old was released to his mother who was staying at the motel.
The 17-year-old’s true identity was then discovered. When Khounlivong had his dispatcher run him, he discovered he was on juvenile probation, a juvenile runaway out of Sacramento County, and had a no-bail local felony warrant for possession of a handgun by a minor.
When the 17-year-old was confronted about this and told he was under arrest, he began to tense up. Officer Conrad then remotely opened Canine Bjorn’s door and called him over. The 17-year-old stopped tensing up and was arrested without incident.
The driver of the vehicle was also detained in handcuffs and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.
Officers then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and K9 Bjorn assisted with a sniff, but no additional contraband was located.
The driver was lectured and released.
The 17-year-old was booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on his warrant.
