At about 12:51am Friday morning, Turlock Police responded to a vehicle collision in the 1000 block of Larchwood Court.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a red 2013 Hyundai Sonata that had gone up onto the sidewalk and into a home’s front lawn, before colliding with and taking down part of the home’s fence.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, Leah Tovar, 19, of Turlock, was uninjured.
Tovar displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol, so officers asked if she’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Tovar agreed and completed the tests.
Officers than had Tovar blow into a preliminary alcohol screening device, as required by law due to her age. The device indicated that Tovar had a blood alcohol content of .18%.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, Tovar was arrested.
After her arrest, Tovar then provided two additional breath samples as required by California’s implied consent law. The first one indicated that she had a BAC of .15%, while the second indicated .14%.
Tovar was released on a citation to a sober driver on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater. She was also issued a driver’s license suspension order and her vehicle was impounded.
It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
