At about 3:29pm Sunday, the California Highway Patrol, Keyes Fire, Turlock Rural Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision with injuries at Fulkerth Road and N. Faith Home Road.
When units arrived on scene, they found three vehicles involved. The first was a 2013 Buick sedan, the second was a 2004 GMC pickup truck, and the third was a livestock trailer being hauled by the GMC.
The Buick had two occupants, a 17-year-old male driver of Modesto, and his passenger, later identified as Eileen Ordoniez, 31, of Modesto. The GMC also had two occupants, driver Antonio Brazil and passenger Luis Delgado, both 49, of Modesto.
The 17-year-old suffered moderate injuries and was transported by American Medical Response to Doctors Medical Center, while Ordoniez suffered major injuries which she succumbed to at the scene. Neither Brazil nor Delgado were injured.
The livestock trailer was also occupied, however, none of the animals suffered any injuries.
Both vehicles sustained major damage.
Officers began investigating and so far, believe that the 17-year-old was traveling eastbound on Fulkerth attempting to continue straight through the intersection, while Brazil was traveling northbound on Faith Home attempting to make a left turn to go westbound on Fulkerth.
As the 17-year-old approached the intersection, he failed to stop for the stop sign and struck the left side of the GMC’s trailer which had lawfully entered the intersection to execute its turn.
Officers also believe that the 17-year-old was under the influence and Ordoniez wasn’t wearing her seatbelt.
After his release from the hospital, the 17-year-old was arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on charges of driving under the influence causing bodily injury to another person, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving with a suspended license.
“The CHP would like to remind all motorists that DUI is a choice,” said Officer Olsen. “Further, seatbelts, when worn properly, have the ability to save your life when involved in a traffic collision. This crash was 100% preventable.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist in it is encouraged to call Officer John Buxie at 209-545-7440.
