On Friday, July 7th, 2023, at 9:52 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of Fulkerth Rd and Countryside Dr, Turlock, observed a teenager driving a vehicle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he attempted to make a traffic stop on him.
The teen failed to stop for the officer and a pursuit ensued.
The teen failed to stop at several red lights and stop signs while being pursued, with clear disregard for the safety of others. At one point, the teen drove against traffic and entered a populated parking lot with his vehicle’s lights turned off in an attempt to evade officers.
The teen eventually reentered the roadway and fled northbound on Countryside Dr, eastbound on W Tuolumne Rd, northbound on N Walnut Rd, and eastbound on W Springer Dr. At that point, officers briefly lost the teen.
A few minutes later, officers who were searching the area for the teen and vehicle located the vehicle abandoned on Andleman Ct near Tahama Ln.
Officers set up a perimeter and received information from a witness that two subjects had fled from the vehicle and were hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1400 block of Andleman Ct.
A police drone, helicopter, and airplane all got overhead and confirmed that there were two subjects hiding in the backyard.
Officers ordered that the subjects come out and surrender, however, they refused.
As officers eventually made their approach, the subjects decided to surrender and were taken into custody without incident.
The driver, a 17-year-old Hispanic boy from Stockton, was arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on the charge of fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer by vehicle with disregard for the safety of persons or property.
The passenger, a 16-year-old Hispanic girl from Stockton, was transported to the Turlock Police Department where she was picked up by her mother a couple hours later.
The vehicle that the two had fled police in was determined to belong to one of the girl’s family members.
