Turlock police arrested a male subject on Thursday after he attempted to punch and kick hospital staff at Emanuel Medical Center.
Officers responded to Emanuel at approximately 3:38 a.m. after hospital staff had placed a male subject under citizen’s arrest.
According to Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis, Melvin Powell, 74, was transported to Emanuel and appeared to be intoxicated.
Once at the hospital, Powell was refusing to receive medical attention, but wanted to sleep in the hospital overnight, said Lewis.
Powell attempted to punch and kick the hospital staff when they would not let him stay.
Eventually hospital staff was able to place Powell under citizen’s arrest until officers arrived.
Powell was arrested and booked for assault.
