Gilton Solid Waste Management owners are taking a proactive effort to help the tornado victims of Joplin, Missouri. The Oakdale based company is reaching out to neighboring communities, including Turlock, asking for any items that can be donated. The company said that they plan to leave for Missouri on Wednesday, June 1st, taking donated materials, volunteers, and company employees.
In Missouri, where over 140 people died in a tornado that hit the city of Joplin on May 22, 2011, Gilton will distribute supplies and help in any way they can. Their goal until Wednesday is to gather as many relief supplies as possible. The company will be collecting any type of non-perishable food, clothing, bedding, personal hygiene, or other items that would help the tornado victims.
Gilton’s group will join many volunteers from across the nation in assisting the disaster clean-up and relief effort. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is looking at ways to house displaced residents of Joplin as about 8,000 buildings and a third of the city was damaged by the tornado.
Gilton is willing to pick up any donated materials, or materials can be delivered to their corporate office located at 755 South Yosemite Avenue in Oakdale. For questions or more information, call (209) 527-3781.
