At about 9:13pm Sunday, Turlock Police responded to a trespass in progress at Julian’s Salon in the 1500 block of Geer Road.

The caller reported there was a man on the roof of the building.

Several officers arrived on scene within minutes, including Officer Roton who was working an overtime detail. Roton launched a drone and spotted a man on the roof with burglary tools and wearing an ankle monitor.

Other officers set up a perimeter and Officer Nunez gave the man orders over a patrol vehicle’s public address to come down. The man complied and climbed down to officers, where he was detained without incident.

The man was identified as John Muir, 35, of Gustine.

When officers had their dispatcher run Muir, they discovered he was a sex offender out of compliance, on parole for grand theft, and on probation out of Santa Clara County for violation of a domestic violence order.

The ankle monitor was linked to supervised release out of Merced County for violation of parole as of June 13, set to complete it on September 9.

It’s unclear why Merced County didn’t do anything about Muir being a sex offender out of compliance while on supervised release with them.

Muir was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of failure to register as a sex offender, possession of burglary tools, and violation of parole.
