State Sen. Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) was appointed to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee Wednesday.
The committee, chaired by Assemblyman Adam Gray (D-Merced), is tasked with performing all audits of state and local government, as directed by the legislature. Some are mandated audits, like the state's annual financial audit, while others are discretionary, usually relating to performance issues, financial issues, and whether an entity or program is complying with the law.
Cannella plans to use his appointment to better investigate wasted money in Sacramento.
“Since arriving in the Senate, a main priority of mine has been finding ways to ensure state government is focused on using their financial resources wisely and reducing unnecessary bureaucracy,” Cannella said. “Whether it is investigating the Parks Department following the discovery of missing funds or any of the other audit requests we are tasked with this year, I am looking forward to working with Assemblyman Gray on reducing the waste and abuse that appears in so many areas of state government.”
Cannella was also appointed to the Senator Cannella to the Joint Committee on Arts, the Joint Committee On Rules, and the Joint Committee On Fairs, Allocation, and Classification.
