A proud, raucous crowd of family and friends greeted the Roselawn High School Class of 2014 on Wednesday.
For many of the nearly 90 graduates, the road to Roselawn had some bumps. But once they came to the school, many students found the environment they needed to take the next step in their education.
One graduate and speaker, Ana Camarillo, said it best when she explained to the crowd that sometimes “failure leads to success.” Camarillo says she never gave up despite challenges, “There were times when I didn’t think I would make it and I never thought I would get to this day, but then I realized the tassel is worth the hassle.”
Juan Ortiz, a former Turlock High School student, explained that the tight-knit atmosphere at the rural campus south of Turlock helped him to care about his education.
“The teachers here cared about my education and they helped me to realize how important education is,” Ortiz said. “I wouldn’t have made it here if it wasn’t for the teachers.”
Ortiz plans to pursue a nursing career and will enroll at Modesto Junior College for his general education requirements.
One of the highlights of the graduation was graduate Jeanette Cisneros, who performed a stirring, inspirational song, “Believer.”
A fitting tribute to the students, families and friend of Roselawn High School who all believe in a better future.
