On Wednesday night, Turlock police found a 2-year-old toddler wandering alone on a busy street, but was returned home safely.

At approximately 7:34 p.m., after National Night Out, off-duty officers found a 2-year-old female toddler chasing a dog on the 2000 block of Fulkerth Road, near Tully Road, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

Officers noticed that there were no adults around, and other officers were called to the scene.

Police searched the area for the dog the toddler was chasing, in hopes of finding the toddler’s home, and located a dog walking out of a home with the front door open on Logan Lane, said Lewis.

Officers determined that to be the home of the toddler and performed a security check of the residence.

They located a 1-year-old sleeping in the front room, and an adult and another infant sleeping in a bedroom, said Lewis.

When the adult was contacted, they told officers that two teens were supposed to be watching the toddlers, but they had left, Lewis said.

No arrests have been made, and no one has been charged at this time.

The case has been sent to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, who may file charges, said Lewis. It is unknown which parent the charges would be filed against at this time.
