At about 3:20am Sunday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision with injuries in the 500 block of W. Hawkeye Avenue.

It was reported that a man had been ejected through the rear windshield of a vehicle.

When units arrived on scene, they found that the reported ejection was really a pedestrian who had gone through the front windshield and been partially ejected through the rear one.

The pedestrian was identified as Stephen Grant, 40, of Turlock, and was transported to a local hospital with major injuries while unconscious. He’s currently in critical but stable condition.

Members of the police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) were called out to the scene to take over the investigation, resulting in the roadway being closed for several hours as they canvassed the area, gathering evidence and measurements.

It was determined that the area of impact was in the 300 block as evidence was found in the roadway there, and the vehicle had ended up a distance away in the 500 block.

After MAIT was done investigating, the involved vehicle was seized as evidence and towed back to the Turlock Police Department.

“The driver stated he did not see the pedestrian in the road until it was too late,” said Sergeant Cervantez. “The driver was not determined to be under the influence of alcohol.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Aziz at 209-668-1200.
