On Thursday, May 18th, 2023, at 3:45 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of Porsche Strasse and N Walnut Rd, Turlock, observed a man riding a bicycle against traffic, so he made a bicycle stop on him.
The officer made contact with the man, later identified as Eric Gomez, 44, of Avenal, and asked him to identify himself. Gomez responded by giving the officer a fake name and attempting to leave.
When the officer told Gomez that he was being detained, he began to run away but eventually stopped, picked up a large rock, and threw it at the officer.
Gomez then began threatening the officer as he assisted him to the ground and placed him in handcuffs.
Gomez was arrested and transported to the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center where he was ultimately able to be identified. It was discovered that Gomez was a parolee-at-large and had a no-bail felony bench warrant out of Merced County for violation of parole.
Gomez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempting to deter or resist an executive officer in the performance of their duty by means of threat or violence, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm likely to produce great bodily injury to a peace officer or firefighter, obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty, and violation of parole, as well as his warrant.
