At about 5:27pm Sunday evening, Turlock Police responded to a weapon offense at The Palms Apartments in the 1100 block of Pedras Road.
When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with the victims who told them that their family member, Manuel Samano, 30, of Los Banos, had brandished a knife at them. Out of fear, the family left the apartment and left Samano behind by himself.
Officers attempted to make contact with Samano, however, he fled out the back of the apartment.
Officers gave chase and were able to corner Samano out on the street, however, he was still uncompliant and had the knife in his waistband.
Samano was hit with a single less-than-lethal round in an attempt to take him into custody, however, it was ineffective and he took off running again.
Officers continued chasing Samano and were able to take him down to the ground, at which point he continued to resist and grabbed an officer’s TASER. Samano was hit with a different TASER and was finally able to be taken into custody.
After speaking with the victims, they didn’t want anything done about the brandishing.
Samano was discovered to be on parole for making a criminal threat and his parole agent authorized a hold, awaiting a parole revocation hearing.
Samano was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempting to deter a peace officer from performing their duties by means of violence, vandalism, and violation of parole.
