One injured in wrong-way hit and run involving alcohol and juveniles early Saturday morning

On Saturday, April 30th, 2022, at 12:33 am, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and Westside Community Ambulance were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Fulkerth Rd and N Soderquist Rd, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they located a single vehicle involved, a gray Nissan sedan, which had collided into a couple of metal bollards.

The vehicle had five occupants at the time of the collision, however, its driver had fled on foot, so only four were at the scene. An adult front seat passenger, age 21, suffered minor injuries but refused to be transported to the hospital, while three juvenile back seat passengers, ages 13, 15, and 17, were uninjured.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.

Officers began investigating and had a hard time putting the pieces together because little cooperation was given to them and no one wanted to identify the driver who had fled on foot.

One of the back seat juvenile passengers eventually told officers that the driver had turned westbound into the eastbound lanes of Fulkerth Rd from N Golden State Blvd and had then collided into the bollards when he tried to correct into the right lanes of traffic, not realizing that the bollards were there.

Additionally, a 24-pack of Modelo beer was found lying on the ground right next to the vehicle. All three juveniles were picked up by their respective parents and officers reported the incident to the Stanislaus County Community Services Agency’s Child & Family Services Division for further follow-up.

The investigation remains on-going.
