Olsen Receives Technology and Life Sciences Award

Last week, Tech America and the California Healthcare Institute (CHI) presented Assemblymember Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) with their top awards for 2014, the Tech Champions Award, and the Life Sciences Award, respectively.

These awards recognize Olsen’s leadership on a variety of important issues relevant to the area with CHI representing upward of 275 leaders in biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics and pharmaceutical companies, as well as public and private academic biomedical research organizations.

“I am honored to have been recognized by leaders in innovation – TechAmerica and the California Healthcare Institute,” said Olsen.

Olsen mentioned the importance of fostering responsible policies that spur technological and scientific innovation. She mentioned them among her top priorities, arguing that such innovations will save lives or improve the quality of life of patients.

It is the mission of CHI to advance biomedical research, investment and innovation through public health advocacy, and ensure the continued vitality of the life sciences sector.

The Life Sciences Award is given to leaders that advance biotechnology, biomedical science, medical device and pharmaceutical innovation. Olsen was recognized as a champion for biomedical innovation and access to care, by the organization because of her guidance, leadership and passion.

TechAmerica, the public sector and public advocacy department of CompTIA has a commitment to expanding market opportunities and driving competitiveness of the United States technology industry around the world.

Annually, the organization recognizes legislators who advocate for the technology industry, showing consistent support for this vital economic sector.

“Assemblymember Olsen is a leader in her caucus and valued advocate for the technology sector in California,” said Kara Bush, TechAmerica’s Director of Government Affairs for the Western Region.

Bush noted Olsen’s advocacy for small business, particularly relating to regulatory reform and taxes, and her work toward job-promoting plans and innovation.

Olsen has worked to advance computer science education in schools and has supported bills that provide patients with the medicine and information they need to get the best treatment through her legislative and advocacy work.
