The registration deadline for National Night Out block parties that would like to receive a visit from special guests is quickly approaching.
America’s National Night Out Against Crime, which will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 4, is an evening designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime efforts, and strengthen police-community partnerships.
Neighborhoods are encouraged to host special events for National Night Out, such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, or other neighborhood gatherings.
Block parties that register by July 17 will receive a visit from from Turlock police officers, firefighters, City officials, McGruff the Crime Dog, or several other guests.
In 2014, the City of Turlock won an award from the National Association of Town Watch for an exceptional sixth year of participation, which featured 32 sponsored block parties.
If you are not interested in hosting a block party of your own, the City of Turlock Parks, Recreation, and Public Facilities Department will be hosting a free National Night Out party at Columbia Park from 6 to 9 p.m.
If you or your neighborhood is interested in participating in the 2015 National Night Out, please contact Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Backeroff at 209-656-3153.
