On Friday, July 9th, 2021, at approximately 8:55 am, the Turlock Police Department received a call of an injury vehicle collision involving a motorcycle in front of Foster Farms located at 4002 W Main St. Officers responded along with American Medical Response and the Turlock Fire Department’s Battalion 4, Engine 31, and Squad 32.
Officers arrived on scene a couple minutes later to find a motorcycle and tractor trailer involved in a collision, with the motorcyclist, later identified as Nicholas Hays, 34, of Turlock, showing obvious signs of death and the driver of the tractor trailer suffering no injuries. When fire crews arrived on scene, they later confirmed that Hays was indeed deceased and that life saving efforts would have zero effect.
Officers began investigating and determined that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when for an unknown reason, the Hays rode into the back of the tractor trailer. At this time, it remains unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision, however, speed definitely was. The roadway was closed for several hours while officers investigated the incident.
Officers have yet to receive any statements from uninvolved witnesses and the investigation remains on-going.
