On Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at 9:58 pm, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies in their helicopter near the intersection of S Golden State Blvd and S Daubenberger Rd, Turlock, notified Turlock Police officers of a motorcyclist that they had been following who had been doing over 100 miles per hour on the freeway at one point.
A Turlock Police officer was right around the corner and staged at S Golden State Blvd and S Berkeley Ave, waiting for the motorcyclist to arrive.
As the motorcyclist did, the officer recognized him as the same motorcyclist who had seen about an hour ago riding around recklessly at a high rate of speed and running red lights while blacked out near E Glenwood Ave and Lander Ave.
The officer got behind the motorcyclist and attempted to make a traffic stop on him, however, he took off from the officer and a pursuit ensued.
The motorcyclist flipped around and went southbound on S Golden State Blvd, eventually merging on southbound State Route 99. The motorcyclist then took the W Bradbury Rd exit and flipped around, going northbound on State Route 99 before taking the Lander Ave exit.
The motorcyclist then drove through the city until arriving at the alleyway behind his residence in the 400 block of S Berkeley Ave where he decided to surrender. A high-risk stop was conducted and the motorcyclist was detained at gunpoint.
The pursuit covered a total distance of a little over eight miles within eight minutes, reaching speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour at one point.
Through the investigation, officers learned that the motorcyclist, Angel Chairez, 21, of Turlock, didn’t have a valid driver’s license or motorcycle endorsement, had filed a planned non-operation on his motorcycle since September 2022, and didn’t have valid insurance.
Chairez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer by vehicle with disregard for the safety of persons or property, driving without a valid driver’s license, driving or leaving standing an unregistered vehicle, failing to provide evidence of financial responsibility to a peace officer, and driving a motorcycle without an endorsement.
