Students from both Medeiros Elementary and Walnut Elementary participated in the NFL’s local Punt, Pass, Kick Competition recently held at each school.
In total, more than 450 students ages 6 to 13 competed and winners are selected based on the distance they punt, pass or kick a football in one try, minus the distance to the left or right off a straight line.
For example, if a participant throws a ball 100 feet down the line and 30 feet to the left, the total score is 70 feet.
The winners of each school will go on to compete with other local winners in Dos Palos for sectionals. Should they win the sectionals, they will advance to compete at an Oakland Raiders game and a half-time appearance.
Medeiros student Mya Sanchez has advanced in each of the last three years to win at the San Francisco 49ers, then the Raiders, and then the 49ers again last year.
This year she was once again amongst the winners in her age group and will be competing in Dos Palos.
