At about 3:20am Friday morning, Officer Sarah Arroyo was driving eastbound on Pedras Road near Rochelle Avenue, when she observed a bicyclist riding westbound with no lights on his bike as required by the California Vehicle Code, so she attempted to stop him.
The bicyclist continued riding westbound, failing to stop for Arroyo’s red light and siren.
As an assisting officer arrived, Arroyo positioned her patrol vehicle in front of the bicyclist and exited it, chasing him on foot while he was still on his bicycle. Arroyo was able to grab one of the bicyclist’s arms and handcuff him.
Arroyo identified the bicyclist as Steven Reed, 39, of Turlock, and had her dispatcher run him. She discovered that he had a $100,000 local felony bench warrant for attempted auto theft and was on probation for the same charge.
Reed was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of resisting a peace officer, as well as his warrant.
