At about 10:06pm Thursday, Turlock Police responded to an armed robbery that had just occurred outside Chili’s in the 2800 block of Countryside Drive.
Officer Aziz arrived at Safeway and contacted the victim there.
The victim stated that he’d been lying down on the bus stop bench in front of Chili’s waiting for a bus to go to Modesto. He wasn’t asleep but had his eyes closed, when he felt someone reach into the pocket of his sweater. When asked what he was doing, the suspect pointed a black handgun at the victim, didn’t say anything, and ran off to a vehicle parked nearby with the victim’s two cell phones.
The suspect pointed the gun at the victim again one last time when the victim followed him and told him to give him his phone back. The suspect then got into the back seat of the vehicle and fled the area southbound on Countryside Drive with two additional subjects in the front seats of the vehicle.
The victim was delayed in calling due to his phones obviously being stolen, requiring him to go to Safeway and use their phone to call. The incident occurred sometime around 9:50pm.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult wearing a black ski mask, white t-shirt, and blue jeans, while the vehicle he got into was described as a white 2005-2006 Toyota Camry with tinted windows.
Other officers and the Modesto Police Department’s airplane checked the area, but were unable to locate anything.
While Aziz was speaking with the victim, he pointed out a possible suspect vehicle that drove by, however, it didn’t end up being the same one when it stopped in front of a residence and its driver was contacted.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist in it is encouraged to call Officer Amir Aziz at 209-668-1200.
