At about 2:58pm Sunday, Turlock Police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at Village Fresh Market in the 2000 block of E. Canal Drive.
The caller reported that Fernando Garcia, 36, of Turlock, a man who they’d previously had issues with, had just stolen four alcohol bottles from the business and battered an employee on the way out.
Responding officers were also familiar with Garcia, as he’s hostile toward them and has resisted them in the past.
Back in February, Garcia had been involved in a fight at Village Fresh with a customer and the manager after possibly trying to steal liquor. He then squared up with a responding female officer, yelling, “fuck Turlock Police!” Canine Bjorn arrived on scene and assisted with apprehending Garcia by biting and grabbing ahold of him, but not before Garcia picked Bjorn up by the neck and got tased. He was arrested on a felony charge at the time.
During this recent incident, employees had followed Garcia to the N. Berkeley Avenue side of Turlock High School, where officers arrived on scene and took him into custody without incident.
Garcia was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of robbery.
