On Tuesday, February 28th, 2023, at 8:11 am, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a security check at Petco, 2687 Countryside Dr, Turlock, after a man had been seen passed out behind the wheel of an improperly parked vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers arrived on scene first and contacted the man, who identified himself as Johnathon Richey, 29, of Hughson, and had drug paraphernalia in plain view. Richey denied medical, so the Turlock Fire Department and American Medical Response were canceled.
When officers had their dispatcher run Richey, they discovered that he was on post release community supervision for possession of methamphetamines for sale, driving or taking a vehicle without the consent of its owner, attempted carjacking, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic.
Officers conducted a PRCS search of Richey’s vehicle and came across pepper spray, which he is prohibited from possessing due to his convicted felon status. A search of Richey’s person was then conducted which revealed that he was in possession of a controlled substance.
Richey was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a tear gas weapon by a convicted felon or person convicted of an assault crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and violation of post release community supervision.
