At about 5:10pm Tuesday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a sick person in the 400 block of S. Soderquist Road.

The caller reported they had just found a man who they believed was deceased in a field next to their residence.

Officers arrived on scene and immediately declared the man deceased, as there were obvious signs of death.

The decedent wasn’t able to be immediately identified, but was identified days later as Alonzo Gaytan, 41, of Turlock.

It’s unknown how Gaytan had been there.

“Foul play does not appear to be a factor,” said Turlock Police spokeswoman Dominique Sanchez. “Due to drug paraphernalia found near the body, [officers] believe it was an overdose.”

A deputy coroner responded to the scene and took possession of Gaytan. An autopsy and toxicology tests will be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Khounlivong at 209-668-1200.
