Man Flees Bicycle Stop and Drops Backpack Containing Gun

IMG_1454-1

At about 9:19pm Thursday, Turlock Police Officer Rocha attempted to make a bicycle stop at N. Broadway and Florence Street.

Instead of stopping for Rocha, the bicyclist decided to flee by jumping over fences and dropping his bicycle, backpack, and phone.

Assisting officers quickly set up a perimeter, which included a drone and two canines.

Inside the dropped backpack, Rocha located a loaded .22 caliber Ruger revolver. The gun wasn’t reported stolen nor registered.

The bicyclist is believed to have run into a nearby residence in the 100 block of Flower Street. Officers attempted to conduct a probation search there due to a known probationer staying there, although no one opened the door for them.

A vehicle parked across the street believed to be associated with the address that hadn’t been registered since March 2023 was towed.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Rocha at 209-668-1200.
