On Sunday, August 28th, 2022, at 7:12 pm, the California Highway Patrol and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported sideshow in progress at NASA Crows Landing Airport, Bell Rd, Crows Landing.

As the sheriff’s office’s airship and deputies on the ground began arriving in the area, the group of over two hundred vehicles began dispersing.

One of the vehicles, a silver Ford coupe, caught the attention of the airship after it had been seen driving recklessly at speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour. Deputies on the ground did not attempt to stop the vehicle, however, it was followed by the airship as it eventually made its way into Turlock.

Due to the vehicle’s continued reckless driving, the decision was made to deploy spike strips at the intersection of W Main St and N Tegner Rd. The spike strips were successful and slowed the vehicle down to about ten miles per hour.

Eventually, the silver Ford coupe collided with an innocent bystander’s black Kia SUV at the intersection of W Main St and northbound State Route 99.

The silver Ford coupe’s driver immediately exited and began fleeing on foot, while his two passengers remained in the vehicle. He was taken into custody shortly later in the dirt field at 201 N Tully Rd and identified as Sergio Valencia, 24, of Santa Clarita.

The Turlock Police Department was dispatched to handle the vehicle collision.

At the time of the collision, the silver Ford coupe had a total of three occupants, while the black Kia SUV had two. No one suffered any injuries.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The silver Ford coupe was towed away from the scene while the black Kia SUV was able to be driven away.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.

Valencia was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of reckless driving, engaging in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway, and hit and run.
