On Saturday, May 14th, 2022, at 5:59 pm, the California Highway Patrol, Keyes Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries on N Washington Rd just north of W Taylor Rd, Turlock.
When crews arrived on scene, they found a single vehicle involved, a Chevrolet pickup truck.
The vehicle had a single occupant, Eric Duane Vaughn, 46, of Stevenson, who suffered fatal injuries after being ejected from the vehicle during the collision.
The vehicle sustained major damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.
Officers began investigating and determined Vaughn was traveling northbound on N Washington Rd at an unknown speed, when for an unknown reason, he allowed his vehicle to veer to the left. His vehicle traveled off the roadway into the west dirt shoulder and collided with two trees, causing it to overturn. The vehicle came to final rest on its side next to an orchard. While overturning, Vaughn was ejected from the vehicle causing his fatal injuries because he was not wearing his seatbelt.
At this point, it remains unknown if Vaughn was or was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
