At about 9:17am Sunday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a suicide at the Turlock Sikh Temple in the 1300 block of Fifth Street.

The caller reported a man had shot himself in the prayer hall and the gun was still next to him. The caller thought the man was deceased and stated he was a newer congregation member who no one knew.

Officers arrived on scene a short time later and found Pavitterpal Buttar, 28, of Turlock, obviously deceased.

A Glock handgun was recovered by officers which was clear and registered to Buttar.

Buttar’s vehicle was also found in the parking lot near the front entrance.

A deputy coroner responded to the scene and took possession of Buttar’s body.

“No foul play or danger to the community was found,” said Public Affairs Analyst Sanchez.

Turlock City News was later made aware by a reliable source of a Facebook post claiming Buttar was suffering from depression due to his mother recently passing away in India and his father having stage 4 cancer.
