The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office announced yesterday that a jury convicted Jeramie Hoover, 25, of Livingston, of the murder of Joel Guzman, 39, of Turlock.

On Monday, November 16th, 2020, at 3:40pm, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to an aggravated assault that had just occurred at the O’Reilly Auto Parts in the 1600 block of Lander Avenue.

Units arrived on scene and located Guzman suffering from six gunshot wounds to his back. They immediately began rendering aid to him and transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation, eventually identifying Hoover as their suspect.

Three days later, on Thursday, November 19th, the Okmulgee Police Department in Oklahoma located Hoover and arrested him on the Turlock Police Department warrant.

Hoover has yet to be sentenced, but is facing a maximum penalty of life in prison for first-degree murder.

Guzman is due back on court before The Honorable Judge Linda McFadden at 8:30am on Tuesday, November 21st, for sentencing.
