At about 11:09pm Wednesday, Turlock Police responded to an armed robbery at FoodMaxx in the 1800 block of Countryside Drive.
The caller reported that a man had used a handgun to steal groceries before fleeing the scene on foot. He also provided a last known direction of travel and description.
Officer Marquez arrived in the area within just two minutes of the call, locating a man who matched the description walking northbound in the 2000 block of Countryside Drive.
The man was detained at gunpoint without incident and identified as Mario Higareda, 22, of Modesto.
Higareda was discovered to be on searchable probation for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic.
During a subsequent probation search, officers located a realistic-looking BB gun, methamphetamines, and drug paraphernalia.
Higareda was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of robbery, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of methamphetamines.
