At about 2:31am Friday, Turlock Police responded to a traffic collision at W Hawkeye Avenue and Geer Road.

The call had been automatically made by the involved driver’s phone, who stated that he had hit the center median after falling asleep behind the wheel.

Officers arrived on scene and found a single vehicle involved. Two street signs had also been knocked down.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was identified as Charles Paetz, 39 of Modesto.

Paetz suffered minor injuries to his hand and complained of pain.

After running Paetz, officers discovered he had a no-bail felony bench warrant out of San Benito County for violation of post-release community supervision and his driver’s license was expired.

Paetz was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.

Paetz’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed away from the scene.
